Editing or Proofreading
Editing is all about your writing. This step focuses on the details—everything from sentence construction and readability to punctuation and grammar. The goal is to make sure that your ideas reach your audience.
Proofreading is typically a final check of your document. The goal is to catch and correct any format problems, typos and misspellings, and other last errors. This process gives the final polish to your manuscript so it’s ready for submission.
Can be done any time—from the first draft to the final draft of your document.
EDITING
Turnaround time depends on the length and complexity of the document.
Stylistic editing focuses on the writing—including sentence and paragraph construction, word choice, and tone—and any graphic elements.
Copy editing focuses on the writing—grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.—to ensure it is correct, accurate, consistent, and complete.
PROOFREADING
Done on the final draft of your document
Usually has a quicker turnaround time.
Focuses on removing any final errors, such as spelling, punctuation, and format problems that were not caught earlier or appeared in the last writing stages
